ESS awarded new catering and housekeeping contract

Leading offshore catering provider ESS Mobile Offshore Units today confirms that it has been awarded the catering and housekeeping contract by KCA Deutag Drilling Norge for two category J jack-up rigs which will commence operations in the Norwegian North Sea next year.

Owned by Statoil and operated by global drilling and engineering contractor KCA Deutag, the Askeladden and Askepott are new build rigs which are custom made for the harsh weather conditions in the Oseberg and Gullfaks fields.

- We are delighted that KCA Deutag has chosen ESS as their offshore partner. We have a great deal of experience in mobilizing new rigs and look forward to making the rig a home away from home for everyone onboard, says Therese Log Bergjord, Nordic Business Manager of ESS parent company, Compass Group.

The contract is for a period of four years, with further options available.

- The rigs are scheduled to be delivered next year, and we are already heavily involved in customizing our operation, says Log Bergjord.

The rigs will, once fully operational, host a team of around 140 people each, including a number of ESS chefs and service employees.
