Posten to buy a Tesla Semi

Posten Norge already has one of the world's biggest fleets of electric vehicles. Next year, a Tesla electric semitrailer will be added to this fleet.

Tesla has announced it is to start production in 2019 of a semitrailer with a range of up to 800 kilometres at maximum weight and motorway speeds.

"We see that the future is electric in all vehicle segments. So it's important for us to test new technology as early as possible," says John Eckhoff, Chief Press Officer of Posten Norge.

Safe technology

The Tesla Semi will have very low air resistance, autopilot technology, automatic emergency brakes and lane-keeping and collision-warning systems which will help make driving safer. The trucks will be able to use separate charging stations to charge up for a range of 640 kilometres in the space of 30 minutes.

"Technology is developing extremely fast and the electric vehicles that will become available in the near future seem able to meet our needs regarding range, safety and costs," says Eckhoff.

Ambitious environmental goals

Posten and Bring have reduced their emissions by more than 40 per cent since 2009 and have now set an ambitious goal of using only renewable energy sources by 2025. Vehicle electrification is a key part of this goal.

Posten Norge will use the Tesla Semi for scheduled traffic between terminals.
