Gdansk becomes Bodø’s first year-round international destination

Share
Wizz Air will launch direct flights between Avinor Bodø Airport and Gdansk with two weekly departures as of 22 May 2019. The new route will provide approximately 19,000 seats between Bodø and Gdansk every year.

‘We are looking forward to welcoming Wizz Air to Bodø. This route will demonstrate our potential to increase international traffic. By supporting this direct route, we will be in the best possible position to enable further growth and development to and from Bodø and Nordland,’ says Finn Ove Hofstad, Manager of Bodø Airport.

The route to Gdansk has taken high priority within Avinor for many years, and Nordland natives can now look forward to a direct route to one of Poland’s most beautiful cities. The route will potentially have a major impact on both business and tourism in the region.

‘This is an important route for both economic migrants to Nordland and tourism in both countries. We are seeing an increasing number of tourists visiting from Poland, which means that good travel connections are crucial for Norwegian industry and tourism,’ he says.

Gdansk

Gdansk is the sixth largest city in Poland and is a very popular destination for Norwegians.

‘Gdansk is a destination that is incredibly popular, offering great shopping, a charming old town and a rich history. It is also close to the neighbouring town of Sopot, a renowned seaside resort,’ he says.

The route will be operated by an Airbus A320 with 180 seats. This is the 10th route launched by the Hungarian airline direct to Gdansk from Norway.

Fourth quarter 2023: Reduced revenue due to changing travel patterns.12.2.2024 14:23:28 CET | Press release

“Avinor's main challenge is reduced revenues due to changes in travel patterns after the pandemic. There are far fewer business travelers than before, and Norwegians' domestic travel activity has levelled off. Lower traffic volume, lack of adjustment of airport taxes, as well as reduced revenue per passenger, largely due to reduced duty-free quota, challenge the Avinor model”, says Abraham Foss, CEO of Avinor.
